Hames Sharley and ISPT scooped up a pool of awards at the recent Property Council of Australia/Rider Levett Bucknall WA Innovation & Excellence Awards held last Friday (4 March 2011) at the Burswood Entertainment Complex for their work on the mixed use development 100 St Georges Terrace/Enex 100.
Owned and developed by ISPT Super Property, the popular development was awarded the Rider Levett Bucknall Award for Best Commercial Development, the under 10,000 sqm Winner and the Excellence in Retail Development Overall Winner Award, recognizing excellence in design as well as the commercial, social and environmental success of the building.
Hames Sharley Director, Dean van Niekerk says the project was challenging as the design needed to respond to a variety of site complexities including heritage, while simultaneously capitalising on all available opportunities to ensure the development would become an overall success for ISPT.
“Underlining the simplicity of the building’s external facade is the rigorous planning and design process that was undertaken behind the scenes by the team and ISPT,” Mr van Niekerk says.
“Not only did the development have to respond to the historic context of the site and attract future tenants, the building was designed in a way so that it would play an important role in the re-activation of Hay Street Mall and St Georges Terrace. The recognition by the Property Council of Australia is therefore a fantastic way to highlight and award the combined efforts of all those who were part of the process.”
The mixed use development is situated between the busy Hay Street Mall and St Georges Terrace providing an important link between the two streets. The linkage via a retail podium not only assists in the activation of the CBD it also provides important amenities to workers, inner city residents and tourists.
The commercial component 100 St Georges Terrace comprises a 24 storey office tower that has been designed to incorporate sustainable initiatives to help enliven and improve the workplace environment for tenants. Unlike other commercial buildings in the Perth CBD, larger floor plates have also been introduced to accommodate the future growth and movements of the tenants allowing the office space to be easily adapted to suit future needs.
These awards mark the eighth Property Council of Australia win for Hames Sharley which has also received recognition for other projects they have worked on including the University of Western Australia’s Biomedical Research Facility, Garden City Booragoon, Whitford City Shopping Centre, Knox City in Victoria and Botany Downs Town Centre in New Zealand.
