Rockingham General Hospital is set to have a pivotal role as one of the four major general hospitals in the metropolitan area, delivering a comprehensive range of core clinical services to the South Metropolitan Health Services. The architectural approach to the functionally complex design of the hospital extension has been no different to the understanding of a city; an urban design solution. Sequences of spaces include natural light and unexpected vistas and consultancy rooms, wards and theatres, however complete and efficient, become subservient to these spaces that structure the hospital. Squares, streets and atriums replace the long corridors and miniscule waiting rooms that are often prevalent in these settings.
