Since our founding nearly fifty years ago, Hames Sharley has been committed to embedding social and environmental responsibility throughout our practice. This commitment is central to our vision of creating enduring value for the communities we serve.

Today, Hames Sharley is pleased to announce that we have joined the United Nations Global Compact initiative – a voluntary initiative for the development, implementation and disclosure of responsible business practices.

With this announcement, we are proud to join thousands of other companies nationally and globally committed to taking responsible business action to create the world we all want.

The UN Global Compact is a call to companies everywhere to align their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption, and to take action in support of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Launched in 2000, the UN Global Compact is the largest corporate sustainability initiative in the world, with more than 20,000 companies based in over 160 countries, and more than 60 Global Compact Networks.

“In line with our commitment to these principles, Hames Sharley is proud to join this initiative. This is about raising awareness of how we behave as a community and as a practice that will drive long-lasting change,” said Hames Sharley Managing Director, Caillin Howard.

Supported by the Hames Sharley Board of Directors, our commitment will see us continue to drive our ESG program to achieve the UN Global Compact SDGs, building on our proud history of embedding sustainability into our operations well before it became an industry norm.

As part of our journey, we have established an internal ESG committee, which will oversee our ESG reporting and commitment to embedding the Ten Principles and SDGs in all business operations, enabling us to take our sustainability progress to the next level.

This builds on the success of our existing committees and working groups, including our National Sustainability Forum, established in 2019 to encourage innovative sustainable initiatives and programs within a framework of critical thinking and debate. It also furthers our existing work in social housing, pro bono charity work, and recommendation of reliable, renewable energy services in all our projects.

“The SDGs are ambitious but in line with our existing dedication to embedding sustainable, human-centric and rights-based practices across our business. They create an additional layer of accountability that we are proud to be held to,” said Caillin.

“With community at the heart of everything we do, we are committed to fulfilling these operations so that we can continue to play our part in creating a more sustainable and equitable future.”
