November 21st marked the culmination of eight years’ of planning, design and consultation, as Vicinity Centres opened the remainder of the new development at Midland Gate.

This project increased the centre’s size by over 14,000 square metres and introduced a new Coles, ALDI and JB Hifi, along with over 30 other specialty tenancies, new amenities, basement and rooftop car parking.

Hames Sharley developed the design concept building on three core pillars, ‘Home is where the heart is’, ‘Rich with heritage’ and ‘Discerning, yet down-to-earth’ to deliver something that embodies the personaility and nature of the Midland region.

The project was delivered as a Design and Construct contract with Doric being the lead contractor. The consultant team included project managers APP; Urbis for town planning; RBB for costing; Peritas for structural and civil engineering; BCA for electrical and building compliance; Wood & Grieve for fire services, hydraulic, mechanical and specialist lighting; strategic fire consulting for fire engineering and Cardno for traffic engineering.

Although the new development has now been completed, Hames Sharley are still actively involved in the ongoing re-development of the existing centre, and will continue to deliver a new Harris Scarfe department store and Rebel Sport. These are scheduled to open in early 2019, as well as the revitalisation of the Centre’s food court.
