The Pantone colour of 2018 is here, and it’s not what you’d expect. Welcome, Ultra Violet.

Dramatic, provocative and stimulating, the colour for 2018 conveys ideas of innovation, ingenuity and visionary thinking.

“The Pantone Colour of the Year has come to mean so much more than ‘what’s trending’ in the world of design; it’s truly a reflection of what’s needed in our world today,” says Vice President of the Pantone Colour Institute, Laurie Pressman.

Ultra Violet stands for pushing boundaries, for creativity, suggesting intrigue and mystery about what lies ahead, particularly with regards to the cosmos and the future of space travel.

Music icons such as Prince, David Bowie and Jimi Hendrix experimented with the colour purple, daring to push boundaries and convey ideas of individuality.

To contrast, the Pantone for the year 2017 was Greenery, symbolic of vitalisation and new beginnings.
