The redevelopment of Ocean Reef Marina in Perth’s northern suburbs aims to achieve several key objectives. These include:
- diversifying housing options and density in the area
- generating employment opportunities through new businesses,
- addressing the shortage of boat pens and stacking in Perth, and
- providing recreational and entertainment amenities for both local residents and visitors.
The overarching vision for Ocean Reef Marina is to transform it into a world-class destination, seamlessly combining recreation, tourism, residential, and boating activities, thus influencing the broader waterfront usage and design approach across Western Australia.
To bring this vision to life, DevelopmentWA enlisted the expertise of Hames Sharley to develop the concept plan for the Ocean Reef Marina Mixed Use Precinct. Tasked with integrating the built form and public realm, Hames Sharley provided urban design and architectural services, working in close collaboration with UDLA landscape architects. The ultimate aim is to create a connected precinct that offers a diverse range of facilities catering to the needs of the local community, new residents, and tourists.
This cohesive approach is crucial for successfully delivering the project. From concept to approval, design through to construction, Hames Sharley applied a precinct-wide strategy to the architectural design and realisation of sites in the coastal environs. This comprehensive approach resulted in the development of a Master Plan and a set of Design Guidelines, ensuring that the residential and mixed-use developments at Ocean Reef Marina achieve the desired scale and quality, aligning with the project’s vision.
