Metro-North Hospital and Health Service engaged Hames Sharley as Architectural Principal Consults for the Emergency Department (ED) Expansion Project at the Caboolture Hospital. The expansion addresses critical capacity issues and the need for increased services due to predicted future population growth in the Caboolture Local Planning Area. An expansion of the existing Emergency Department provided space for the Paediatric Emergency unit, Mental health rooms, and extra aged-care beds.
The Caboolture Hospital ED Expansion project involved three stages:
- Provision of a new SOPD (Specialist Outpatient Unit Building)
- Reconfiguration of the existing Outpatients Area to accommodate the new Medical Imaging Unit
- Reconfiguration of the existing Medical Imaging Area to accommodate the expanded ED.
The redevelopment was undertaken in a staged approach to address the immediate shortfall, cater to long-term needs, and ensure that the existing Department remained operational during the works.
