Engaged as the Concept Architect, Hames Sharley was the lead consultant throughout the Concept and Developed Design stages of the project and will continue to monitor and review production and progress throughout the remaining stages of design and documentation and into construction. The Ikano Power Centre (IPC) which is located in Mutiara Damansara in Kuala Lumpur had not been touched since construction in 2002 and Ikano identified the need for a major refurbishment in order to reposition the centre within the surrounding retail environment and increase the lettable space. Hames Sharley focussed its attention on providing an efficient and effective retail environment based on their long-standing experience within the sector whilst also striving to convey Ikano’s 5 brand attributes, Caring, Convenient, Inspiring, Fun and For the Many.

The redesigned mall layout increased lettable area and created a more balanced retail offer which gives IPC greater tenant flexibility moving forward whilst the Interior Design has focussed on implementing a fusion of Malaysian and Scandinavian design elements and materials to create a playful and inviting environment for all customers to enjoy for extended periods of time.

Hames Sharley managed to design within the limited budget and work appropriately and efficiently to comply with the extremely short time frames whilst maintaining the integrity of the design. Customers now experience an entirely new shopping environment, with increased amenity, increased public space – inclusive of an all-new pedestrian-only concourse, family focussed play areas, increased connectivity to neighbouring centres, memorable social spaces, fashionable eat street, and enticing new fashion and lifestyle brands.
