On 12 July 2014, The Mayor of South Perth, Sue Doherty, invited William Hames - Executive Chairman of Hames Sharley, to address a joint meeting of the City of South Perth and the City of Melville, in order to discuss public transport initiatives; such as light rail and Transit Oriented Development.

William used the opportunity to present the initiatives direct relevancy to Perth’s population and its new planning lexicon, outlining case studies of hypothetical scenarios for South Perth in 20-50 years’ time, when the expected population of Perth is predicted to grow from 3.5 million to 5 million people.

William Hames says “We need to open up the dialogue with our communities, to explain the opportunities available and to encourage them to seek solutions that will best fit their city.’’
